How to layer sea salt and marine notes with dry cedar
Sea salt and marine notes is salty, cool and breezy. Dry cedar is dry, crisp and pencil-shaving clean.
- Starting ratio
- two sprays of the marine scent to one of the cedar
- Best for
- Summer, travel and a clean, outdoorsy signature.
- Note families
- Aquatic and Woody
Why this combination works
Marine notes are salty and airy but fade quickly. Cedar adds a dry, woody structure that holds them in place, so the result feels like driftwood on a cool beach rather than a fleeting splash.
How to layer it
- Start on clean, moisturised skin. Unscented lotion helps both scents last.
- Apply the dry cedar first, since it is the stronger of the two. Use two sprays of the marine scent to one of the cedar as a starting point.
- Wait about a minute, then add the sea salt and marine notes over it or on a different pulse point so it is not buried.
- Give the blend 20 to 30 minutes to settle before judging it. Notes shift as they warm on skin.
The blend as a scent blueprint
This is how the combination maps across a fragrance's top, heart and base. Use it to look for individual scents, or to describe the result you want.
- Topsea salt, grapefruit
- Heartsage
- Basecedarwood, ambroxan
What to avoid
Avoid sweet woods or vanilla, which make marine notes smell sticky and confused.

Build my blueprintFrequently asked questions
Why do marine scents fade quickly?
The materials that create a salty, airy effect are light and evaporate fast, so a woody base helps them last.
Can I wear this in winter?
It can feel cool on cold days, so many people reserve it for warmer weather.
